Try this at your local pub. "POEMS, PROSE and PINTS at the PUB." I'll bet they'll let you do it . . . PLUS . . . there is no better way to get to know your local friends. Of course, you'll need to curate the event, but that is s shoe-in. Just set some guidelines. People comply because they have great things to share and want a VOICE in the community. JUST DO IT. :D But it has to be authentic, not religious. You will make friends. That is the most important thing in the world. I have done this. I know it is a true path for REAL LIFE CONNECTIONS. And then --- buy a round for all poets who participate. I am not exaggerating. This is a way to open the doors of dialogue.
Speaking today about how “ FAITH DOES NOT SAVE US.” Drop by and check it out. Service is a 3pm. 316 N. 70th Street. Seattle — Greenwood area, north of the Zoo. You can see our building from the Starbucks on Phinney.
I liked these good suggestions. John is our plenary speaker at the Diocese of the West Synod next month. Looking forward to hearing what he has to say. (not advertising thebatonexchange) just liked what John had to say. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb_Lv__e-_s&fbclid=IwAR3Q1XipkhxEv7Ib5f9EjWO3Qh0tfAjZ_Gh4XDAgIsnKWkaRGoUEK_edqyM
Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” -- John 21:5-6 -- What do you think this story teaches? (In one sentence), do you think this account is about simple obedience to the command of Christ, or is there "anything" in addition to that to learn here? What do YOU think?

Be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ - Eph 5:18-20 - Painting by Fr. Daniel 2009
3PM - OUR SPECIAL SERVICE --"5th WEEK OF THE MONTH" A worship-time dedicated to Music and Liturgy only. No homily. Come join us for a Lenten service of the adoration of our Lord.
Well, it’s official, I’ve announced my retirement as Rector at Emmanuel Anglican - effective Eastertide 2020 - after the Vestry and Bishop installs the new Rector. All is well. No drama. Much work ahead for our Search Committee.
CLASSICAL SERVICE TODAY @ 3pm. The Eucharistic part of the service will be in the "ad orientem" format - where the entire congregation - as well as the priest - faces the altar together as we pray together. This is an ancient way of worship practiced by the early church. This format for worship eliminates all shenanigans and showmanship, quells all tendencies toward cults of personality, undercuts the elevation of people or self. The priest assumes an "anonymous" posture of praying with the people. Hidden, rather than drawing attention to himself. This service is the opposite of the contemporary entertainment model for worship. VERY ancient and counter-cultural. Come worship with us today. All are welcome. LENTEN MUSINGS WHAT KIND OF MASS DOES YOUR LIFE HAVE? I read where someone said, our lives have a kind of "mass." (metaphorically). Mass has gravity, not just size. Mass has innate power. Black holes have mass, even though their physical size is described as a "singularity." We know they are there because of how they bend space and change the properties of time . . . or so Einstein speculated. We all know SOMEONE who seems larger than life, a person who has "mass," and others whose "mass" seems to diminish over time, or, perhaps shrink because of some reprehensible incident or moral failure. Why do people seem to either grow or diminish in "mass?" Why do some people seem to have "gravitas," and others not? One reason, I muse, is that some people seem less self-absorbed as they focus on being a benefit to others - perhaps altruistic. It is indeed odd that when one gives one's self to others one does not fade away, but grows in "mass" and "gravity." This surely must be a phenomenon of our universe. I think of Mother Teresa. Others diminish into obscurity and parabolic irony. They are reduced to proverbs and warnings. I think of Howard Hughes. It seems the ancient wisdom defines it for us this way. "The greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted..." The way of greatness, gravitas; mass, seems to be traced out by path of those who serve, love, sacrifice, care for and benefit others. Inversely, diminishment seems to be the end of all lives that consume, demand, bully, force, impose, and coerce. So, "If you want to be great . . . learn to be the servant of all." Remember who said that, and try to measure his "mass" and "gravity." The proportions of his "mass" have no comparison on earth. He is beyond every rival. He alone has bent time and space in ways we still cannot fully appreciate or comprehend. - Fr. Daniel Rice -
SERVICE 7pm TONIGHT Join us in worship 316 N 70th St Seattle / Greenwood Remember you are dust, and to dust you will return. You will leave as you came, naked and empty handed. You will surely return to The God who sent you here to give an account of the deeds you’ve done in this body. His gift to you was life. Your gift to Him is what you make of this life. While you’re still here send your treasures on ahead of you - where thief and decay cannot destroy them. There is still today - begin now. Because where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Fr. Daniel Patrick Francis Rice ASH WEDNESDAY 2019

Today, when the gospel is more and more misunderstood, distorted, and denied, it's vital to tell it clearer, better and more effectively. The challenge is greater than ever. — Fr. Daniel —
An excerpt from my homily this coming Sunday... What is this relationship with Christ like? "It is like scratching an itch that reveals a deeper itch. Like soothing a pain that uncovers a deeper pain. And there we have it . . . the beginning of a healing that will go down deeper and deeper, from one level to another, healing and revealing, healing and revealing, healing and revealing until we are caught up in that critical mass event called “the resurrection from the dead,” when our mortality will be entirely swallowed up into LIFE ITSELF. This is no small man-made religion. This is the relentless activity of the Almighty in pursuit of what he lost, found, purchased back, and will utterly recover on the Last Day. He will not be denied his beloved."
BORING OLD DOCUMENTS ARE IMPORTANT They Just May Save You from Ambiguity & Trouble Here, I am referring to The 39 Articles of Faith, of the Anglican Church - that is The Church of England. Many, if not most Anglicans I know are unfamiliar with the 39 Articles. It's that old bothersome, boring doctrinal statement of beliefs of the Reformed Catholic Church. Yawn. But, in truth it is rich to anyone who is passionate about their Faith, and what their Faith is about. Personally, I recommend Dr. Peter Toon's updated language for these Articles, and there are other versions equally easy to read. And, I totally encourage anyone interested in knowing about what Anglicans believe (or say they believe) to study this document well. You might be amazed at what you find. Here is a link to an statement from Peter Toon himself (now passed away), about The 39 Articles of Religion. I found it very good. Enjoy. https://www.virtueonline.org/thirty-nine-articles-religion-1571-how-boring
MERCY TRIUMPHS OVER JUDGMENT. . . Mercy outruns, out reaches, out strides all malice. Mercy will win the day. Mercy will have the last word - the last laugh - the winning vote. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me ALL the days of my life ...AND I will yet dwell in the house of the Lord ...forever.
Epiphany Icon by Fr. Daniel. He also painted four paintings for Advent. We will publish those soon, too. Emmanuel is a parish that values the artists in our midst. Check us out on the Internet at www.emmanuelseattle.com — we will also soon have a new website. Stand by for the launch.
ADVENT 2 - PEACE Without Advent there would never have been an Easter. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Be still and know He is God.
